The Marshall Thundering Herd make an historic comeback, claiming the Survey Says crown at tonight’s team dinner at the Albuquerque Convention Center. The Herd trailed 200-83 in the third and final round before stealing all of Colorado State’s point for the win.
The game started out with the offenses battling in round one. Colorado State swept all three questions to take the round 562-0. Round two saw the defenses square off and Marshall got its revenge, sweeping the Rams, 469-0.
Round three saw the coaches face off in a winner take all game. In Gildan New Mexico Bowl history, the winner of Survey Says is 5-3 in the bowl game since we began the competition in 2009. The teams split the first two questions and the Rams held a 200-83 lead going into the final question. Gus asked, “Name something you would hate to be on when it broke.” Marshall buzzed in first and said “Bicycle” but it was not on the board. Colorado State responded with the top answer, roller coaster. After choosing to play the, they couldn’t find another correct answer, setting up The Herd for the steal. Marshall shouted out “elevator” which was the No. 3 answer and stole the points and the win, 203-200.
Earlier in the day, both teams visited a local elementary school and the UNM Children’s Hospital. Players and coaches interacted with the children, signed autographs, took pictures and gave gifts to the children.
