2017 Gildan New Mexico Bowl – Marshall 31, Colorado State 28

Saturday’s Gildan New Mexico Bowl attendance was 26,087.

The scoreless first quarter was just the second in Gildan New Mexico Bowl history. The only other game with a 0-0 first quarter was the inaugural game in 2006 between San Jose State and New Mexico.

Tyre Brady’s 76-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter tied the third-longest in Gildan New Mexico Bowl history, and Chase Litton tied for third-longest pass on the same play.

Tyre Brady’s 165 receiving yards and 27.5 yards per catch are third-most in Gildan New Mexico Bowl history.

Marshall running back Tyler King’s 90-yard touchdown run was a new long in Gildan New Mexico Bowl history, breaking a previous record 77-yard run set by Colorado State’s Gartrell Johnson in 2008.

Colorado State and Marshall combined for 35 points in the second quarter to tie the most in one quarter at the Gildan New Mexico Bowl, and Marshall’s 21 points were the most by a single team in one quarter.

Saturday marked the first time in the last six years that the team that scored first won the game.

Marshall becomes the eighth team in Gildan New Mexico Bowl history to win the game after leading at the half.

The 3:46 length of game was the second longest behind the record 4:06 set by Washington State and Colorado State in 2013.

Marshall’s win marks the first Gildan New Mexico Bowl victory for Conference USA after losing in 2010, 2014 and 2016.

Marshall’s 12 tackles for loss broke the previous record of nine held by BYU (2010) and Fresno State (2009), and the 40 yards recorded are third most in Gildan New Mexico Bowl history.

Channing Hames recorded 2.5 tackles for loss, tying the second most in Gildan New Mexico Bowl history.

Marshall’s 11 penalties and 107 penalty yards are the most in Gildan New Mexico Bowl history, breaking previous records of 10 penalties and 103 penalty yards by Washington State and New Mexico respectively.

Chris Jackson’s two breakups are tied for the most by one player.

Marshall’s 7.2 average yards per rush are second most behind CSU’s 9.3 average yards per rush in 2008.

Marshall now holds the Gildan New Mexico Bowl record for touchbacks with six, breaking the previous record of five set by Arizona in 2012.

The Defensive MVP was Marshall defensive tackle Channing Hames. Hames led the Thundering Herd with 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
